Yukon
Quest. As early as 1976, a Fairbanks to
Whitehorse race had been talked of. But it wasn't until a conversation
between Roger Williams, Leroy Shank, Ron Rosser and Willie Libb in the
Bull's Eye Saloon, in Fairbanks in 1983, that it became more than an
idea. They decided to name the race the "Yukon Quest" to commemorate the
Yukon River , the old highway of the north. The trail would trace the
path that the prospectors followed to reach the Alaskan interior from
the Klondike during the 1898 gold rush. The first race tested both race
logistics and the talents of all involved. Twenty-six teams left
Fairbanks that February day in 1984. Over the next 16 days, 20 teams
made it to Whitehorse , with six teams forced to drop out along the way.
Sonny Lindner became the first Quest champion, completing the race in
12 days. The rest is history. For more information on the world's
toughest sled dog race please go to www.yukonquest.com |

Driving Force is Whitehorse's leading provider of quality rental cars, trucks and SUV's. Getting
around the Yukon can be a complicated business, especially in the
extreme conditions of a northern winter. Reliable, sturdy vehicles are
the order of the day as we make our way between the remote checkpoints
and oversee the demands and safety of the staff and racers who are
scattered along the racecourse. We really enjoy the great cars
and service of Driving Force as the official supplier of vehicles for the
Yukon Arctic Ultra. They also have a great choice of vehicles for the
summer! For more information on rates and leasing, please have
a look at www.drivingforce.ca. |

Wilderness Fishing Yukon helps us by allowing us to use their cabin to host our remote Checkpoint on Ken Lake. The right cabins are not easy to find. So, we are very happy to receive this support.
Wilderness Fishing Yukon is a service oriented company that gives people the ability to enjoy great fishing in a beautiful setting. Each of their nine lakes has one clean, well maintained cabin on it. Each party gets their lake all to themselves. Clients can enjoy pristine wilderness at their own pace with the people of their choice. Fishing in the land of the midnight sun means there is plenty of daylight to fish to your hearts content. When is the last time you heard of a place where there are more moose, loons, eagles, bears, and otters than people? The fact is, places like the Yukon are a rarity the world over. The Yukon is a place where the Rocky Mountains meet the Arctic Circle. Vast valleys are fringed by beautiful mountain ranges. Once you come to the Yukon Territory, chances are you'll be back!
